The swim course is in Lake Newport Pool at 11601 Lake Newport Road, Reston. The distance is about ¼ mile (400 meters). Based on the expected water temperature, wetsuits are not permitted. Swimmers enter through the main entrance and go to the far side of the pool. The start is near the diving boards. Spectators are on the opposite side of the pool.
This event is a 400-meter “snake” swim. Entrants begin one at a time, swim up lane 1, under the lane divider, down lane 2, etc., until they complete all eight lanes.
The slightly rolling bike course is protected by traffic cones and Fairfax County Police. Volunteers are available to give directions and assistance.
