Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are the dates & distances for all 3 of the Reston 2026 race series?

The Racing in Reston season features three premier events designed for all skill levels:

  • Reston Sprint Triathlon: Sunday, June 7, 2026. Features a 400m pool swim at Lake Newport, a 12-mile bike, and a 5K run.

  • Reston Youth Triathlon: Sunday, July 19, 2026. Distances are age-specific (6–17), focused on safety and youth athletic development.

  • Reston Olympic Triathlon: Sunday, September 20, 2026. Includes a 1500m open water swim in Lake Audubon, a 25-mile bike, and a 10K run.

Can I pick up my race packet on the morning of the event?

No. To prevent race-day delays, there is no packet pickup on race morning. Participants must visit the designated locations (usually Lake Newport or Lake Audubon pools) on the Friday or Saturday prior to the event. You must bring a photo ID, and per USAT rules, adult athletes must collect their own packets in person.

Are wetsuits allowed for the open water swim?

Wetsuit usage follows USA Triathlon (USAT) official temperature guidelines.

  • Wetsuits are legal if the water is 78.0°F or lower.

  • Between 78.1°F and 83.9°F, you may wear a wetsuit but will be ineligible for awards.

  • The official temperature is verified by a USAT official roughly 60–90 minutes before the first wave. Check the Athlete Guide for real-time updates on race week.

What is the policy if I need to cancel my registration?

Racing in Reston is a community-driven series powered by the CORE Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Because 100% of proceeds support local community programs, we maintain a strict no-refund and no-deferral policy. However, bib transfers to other athletes are typically permitted until the Tuesday before race weekend.

Do I need a special membership to participate?

Yes. All events are USAT-sanctioned. Athletes must provide a valid annual USAT membership number or purchase a one-day membership during the online registration process. This ensures all participants are covered by comprehensive event insurance.
